Almost every towel in this category is quoted on how it feels in the sample box, and almost every one is judged on what it looks like after a season in an industrial laundry.
So the two numbers on our quotes are colour-fastness to bleach and shrinkage across cycles. A colour that greys or shifts under repeated bleaching takes a whole stock down together, and a towel that keeps shrinking stops stacking long before it wears out.
The third number is how many towels you have to own to cover a day’s turnover plus whatever is in the wash. That is a laundry-capacity calculation and we would rather do it with you than sell you a number.
Why we exist
This is a category where the sample decides the order and the laundry decides the outcome.
A colour with no fastness figure fades unevenly across a whole stock. A towel quoted on first-wash shrinkage carries on shrinking. A sweat towel with nowhere to hang ends up on the floor. Microfibre washed with softener holds odour and gets blamed for it. And an antimicrobial finish gets sold as a reason to launder less, which it is not. We specify around all five, because those are the complaints, and none of them are visible in a sample.
What we actually make
Small hooked sweat towels in a lighter weight that dries in a closed gym bag. Issued facility towels specified for a hot bleach wash with the fastness and shrinkage on the quote. Microfibre quick-dry towels with the no-softener instruction printed on the label rather than hidden in a leaflet. Equipment wipe-down towels in a deliberately different colour and size so nobody confuses them with a body towel. Heavier retail towels with woven-in branding for the towel that goes home. And evaporative cooling towels, sold as what they are.
Everything is counted into inners and labelled by size and colour, because the person restocking reception is not the person who ordered.
What we do not sell
Bath towels, bath sheets and pool towels. This site is the gym floor and the locker room, and those are a different specification for a different laundry.
We also will not sell you an antimicrobial finish as a substitute for laundering. It depletes with washing rather than lasting the life of the towel, and the way it is marketed in this category is the part we take issue with, not the finish itself.
And we will not sell a cooling towel as a sweat towel. One is designed to hold water so it can evaporate and the other to take water away. They are opposite requirements and the complaint that follows is always justified.
